ASB School Stories

Located in the heart of Mumbai, India, the American School of Bombay is a coeducational, independent, IB day school from Pre-K to Grade 12.

Health & well-being is extremely important at ASB, and we invest a lot of energy into ensuring the social and emotional wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff.

In Elementary, all students are allocated Home Rooms. In Middle and High School all students are allocated an Advisory, which are cross-grade groups who meet regularly, supported by an adult mentor. It is during the Advisory time that a lot of the SEE Learning is reinforced.

All Schools participate in regular Assemblies (weekly) as well as special assemblies from time to time.

School Psychologist (School-wide; Pre-K to Grade 12)

The School Psychologist works with counselors, specialist teachers, parents and students in ensuring that students with learning, language and/or counseling needs are given support by the school. The School Psychologist also provides individual/family counseling support. In addition, the School Psychologist conducts formal psycho-educational assessments when needed.

Counselors

Elementary, middle, and high school counselors play numerous roles within our school to ensure that students' social, emotional, and academic needs are being met. They provide a wide range of services that include individual, group, or family counseling, classroom guidance, parenting support, faculty and parent workshops, college planning, and course selection. Additionally, the counselors lead the social-emotional learning in each of the divisions.

Health Clinic

The Health Office at ASB aims to provide care for children and staff to ensure that they can be as healthy as possible to maximize their experience at school. We provide care for acute and chronic illnesses, first aid, health education for children, teachers, and parents, and health screening. We also provide a resource for the school community about health care in Mumbai.

The Health Office is staffed by qualified, experienced nurses. We have a pediatrician and a physician on campus one day per week. They are also available on an as-needed basis through the health office to coordinate healthcare. The nurses help to ensure that all staff at ASB have current first-aid certification. First aid kits are provided around the campus and for field trips. An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is available on each campus.

Student Safeguarding

ASB is committed to providing a safe environment for its students and all members of the community. To this end, we strive to ensure the safety and well-being of every child.  ASB endorses the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which our host country, India, is a signatory. The School relies on preventative practices to reduce risk and ensure child protection and will respond effectively to situations that are harmful to our students and our school community.

ASB’s Student Safeguarding Policy is reviewed and published annually in handbooks, communicates this policy annually to students and families, and provides training for all staff.
