At the American School of Bombay, we believe in offering our students a Limitless Education, where they can explore their passions Beyond the Classroom. Our co-curricular programs are central to our educational philosophy.
Through a rich program of creative pursuits, sports, technology, and service, we empower our students with the skills, courage, optimism, and integrity to pursue their dreams and enhance the lives of others.
Our school motto is ‘Dream. Learn. Serve.’, and the co-curricular activities we offer go to the heart of this motto
ASB offers all of these opportunities through the After School Activities (ASAs) and our holidays, as well as through student and staff lead clubs. These activities develop leadership and problem-solving skills and contribute to students becoming intrinsically motivated.
A sample of some of our After School Activities (ASAs) include:
- Performing Arts, including Music, Dance, and Drama
- Physical Activity, including Cricket, Tennis, Soccer, Rock Climbing, Swimming, Basketball, Track & Field, Taekwondo
- World Around Us
- Visual Arts
- Homework Club
- Language (Elementary School only)
- Literacy / EAL Bridging
- Model United Nations (MUN)
- Quiz Bowl
ASB’s school-wide learning objectives are central to our approach to our co-curricular program and for delivering a Limitless Education.
- All ASB students are creative and adaptable, using inquiry and relevant skills in the continual pursuit of knowledge, understanding and personal meaning.
- All ASB students apply attitudes and skills to pursue their dreams with courage, integrity, and resilience.
- All ASB students identify interpersonal, social and environmental challenges and take action to positively impact their world.
- All ASB students embrace their India experience enabling them to become more effective global citizens.
Collaborating with others to realize a theater or musical production, thinking critically about visual information, wrestling with the inevitable peaks and valleys of a creative endeavor, daily practice and working hard to achieve goals, help students build confidence, develop leadership skill and problem-solving skills, and contribute to becoming intrinsically motivated. ASB offers all of these opportunities through our After School Activiites (ASAs) and our Holiday Programs, as well as through student and staff lead clubs.
Trips and Expeditions
Stepping out of your comfort zone and normal living environment on field trips, expeditions, and retreats enhance and complement our students’ studies. These activities build resilience and adaptability, and provide opportunities for our students to reflect on themselves, their goals, and their community. ASB actively pursues as many opportunities as we can for our students to experience adventure both in India and abroad.
Activities Offered for Different Age Groups:
Student Life at the Elementary School campus is about inspiration, dreams, skills, courage, and optimism—some of the key values of our school mission. Students from grades KG – 5 are inspired to follow their passion, extend an area of interest or explore a new learning opportunity by engaging in a comprehensive range of co-curricular learning opportunities that will balance and complement their academic experiences. Some programs run solely after school and others extend the school day and occur on Saturday mornings.
Our Student Life platform allows students to apply what they have learned in the classroom in new ways, strengthen their skills in a particular area, and explore new areas of interest. We believe that students must have the opportunities to explore their passions and interests as well as new ideas, hobbies, and activities.
Balancing their everyday class experiences are programs designed to meet the needs of all middle-level learners. Our clubs, dramatic productions, bands, choirs, and after school activities provide students with appropriate opportunities to participate and learn. Also, students can engage their minds and bodies on Middle School athletic teams in volleyball, table tennis, badminton, soccer, basketball, swimming, track and field, and tennis.
A variety of after-school activities are offered each year. Most activities are run in conjunction with the ASIAC seasons and meet once or twice each week, for one and a half-hour session. Students are encouraged to explore different interests and new experiences.
The multi-cultural context in an international school in Mumbai empowers the students in more ways than one. They develop positive peer and adult relationships while pursuing their course of study. Outside the academic day, our students have a broad range of programs to enrich their daily lives. From athletics to arts, service opportunities to after-school activities, they stay meaningfully engaged.
The High School offers a number of clubs, sports, and leadership opportunities both within and after the school day. Student Council, Model United Nations, ISTA, AMIS, and a variety of service and special interest clubs make up our options. We are a member of the South Asian Inter-School Association (SAISA). SAISA is an organization of schools (from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka), which offer students opportunities to build athletic, leadership, academic, and creative skills. Through tournaments and retreats, students engage in competition and build relationships with others.
