Curriculum
ASB is a fully recognized World IB School utilizing an international curriculum with full accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It is also accredited by the Commission of International and Trans Regional Accreditation. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program was established at ASB in 1998. ASB's IB-Primary Years Program (PYP) and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB/DP) are authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
Our Middle School Concept for grades 6-8 emphasizes strong academics coupled with programs and strategies that meet the needs of the whole child.
Students in all divisions benefit from strong academic programs in math, science, language arts, social studies (humanities), French or Spanish, music, visual and dramatic arts, technology, and PE. Specialist teachers are provided for French, Spanish, Drama, Music, Art, PE, and Technology for grades ECEC (Early Childhood Education Center) through grade 12. The school has a strong commitment to professional development and to providing leadership opportunities for all of our educators. A climate of collegiality, collaboration, and professionalism permeate all three of our divisions.
ASB's innovative wireless laptop program is well-established in the secondary school where all students in grades 6-12 use Tablet PC's as an instrument of learning throughout the curriculum. ASB strives to be a leader among international and US schools in the use of wireless technology in education.
Approximately 10% of students are English as a Second Language (ESL). These students, depending on their age and fluency, spend a portion their day in ESL sessions and are increasingly mainstreamed as appropriate.
The school offers a comprehensive After School Activities (ASA) program and athletics program. The ASA program includes: Arts and Crafts, Cooking, Hindi, Taekwondo, and many others. The athletics program includes track and field, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball and swimming. In addition, ASB actively participates in the South Asian International School Association (SAISA), music festivals, choral festivals, Model United Nations and ISTA.
Traditions play an important part at ASB. Special events give us ways to come together, learn about each other, sing, celebrate, and say goodbye. Students may not remember their last algebra or spelling test at ASB, but ASB's traditions will provide long lasting memories for years to come. Among the many that deserve mention here are: Authors Festival; Book Fairs; Carols and Cocoa; Community Aquathon; Commencements; Diwali Celebrations; Halloween Parade; Holiday Concerts; Family Fun Day; Festival of Nations; Sports Day; Swim Gala; Week Without Walls.
